McCoy and Sergeant Courtland A. Kennard, 22, of Starkville, Mississippi, died in Baghdad, Iraq, on November 9, 2006 after an improvised explosive device, IED, detonated near their vehicle. Both soldiers were assigned to the Army's 410th Military Police Company, 720th MP Bn, 89th MP Brigade, Fort Hood Texas. Christmas in Arlington.... Rest easy, sleep well my brothers. Instead of a t-shirt, I was given an American flag and a pencil with the name "SSG GREGORY MCCOY" written on it. This evening while using this pencil I finally googled the name to see who this person was. I did not realize that he died a hero in 2006. Needless to say, I reverently put this pencil away in a drawer. God bless Gregory McCoy! |
