31, of Sweet Springs, Mo.; assigned to 1st Brigade Transition Team, and attached to the 4th Infantry
Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.; died May 24 in Baghdad of wounds
sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Also killed was Sgt.
1st Class Robert E. Dunham.

Staff Sergeant Russell K. Shoemaker, 31, of Swett
Springs, Missouri. Shoemaker was one of two soldiers from the 1st Brigade
MTT that died on May 24, 2007 while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
God Bless... Christmas in Arlington... Rest easy, sleep well my
brothers. Know the line has held, your job is done. Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held. Peace, peace, and
farewell... Russell, You Have Not Been Forgotten... Say, Hooah to the
